I am hoping that these terrorists have woken a sleeping giant. The giant of a united Europe and America. A coalition of countries that will now start using whatever force is necessary to stop the genocide that ISIS is bringing upon the countries of Syria and Iraq and the world. They are the Nazis of our age. They want everyone that is not them dead. They have no remorse for what they are doing. When the news about Paris was hitting the internet, I heard about a mass grave that held the bodies of 80 Yazidi women (ages 40-80) in Iraq. ISIS had slaughtered them but took the younger women hostage as sex slaves for their troops. Just another item on their growing list of atrocities.
I have been dismayed the last couple of days by some of the social media comments and posts I have seen from people who I thought were rational, intelligent adults. ISIS is not Islam. Far from it. The "religion" they practice is an abberation of what Islam truly practices. Surah al-Hujurat of the Qur’an (49:13): “O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise [each other]).” Millions of Muslims practice a peaceful religion that extols community over conflict. ISIS has little regard for the true tenants of Islam. They kill innocents, rape women and children, burn their antiquities, and the Qur'an. They kill fellow Muslims because they do not care. They want us all to die.
Just because you shout God’s name while committing murder doesn’t make your actions righteous. The KKK burns crosses and preaches hate in the name of Jesus but we do not lump all Christians in with those assholes. And we should not lump in all Muslims with ISIS. We need to stop blaming and hating the peaceful people of the world and go after the terrorists that truly hate.
Sometimes we can reason with an aggressor. Sometimes we need to put a gun in their face. Now is the time to use the gun. We have ignored this genocide for too long. I hope this unites the countries of this world. And then maybe we can stop asking why.
