Since he was in the Navy he went away a lot and I was bored. I hated Florida until I met some friends and fellow wives who wanted pictures of their kids. I really liked photography in high school. I had been so mad at my husband that I did not want to pick it up again. I hated being alone and being around other people made me happier. I picked up the camera, read the owners manual, and pretty much faked my way through taking pictures. I actually got paid to do a wedding and I sold a photo to the Navy Times that appeared on the cover. I secretly loved it. I never told the ex that I really wanted to do more with it because that was HIS camera and I was just allowed to us it when he was gone.
When we got divorced, I took the camera. It was a big F&%K YOU to him. He wanted it, told me he would fight me for it, and I told him to try. I moved out of the house a couple months before the divorce was final and I took the camera, a digital camera that he bought, and cleaned out his bank account. The camera was mine.
When digital became popular I sold the Minolta on Ebay with all the lenses and then moved on to other pursuits. When my husband and I decided to live together his camera equipment moved in with him. He has added to his gear, including studio equipment, new lenses, and a new camera body. The older camera body is now the camera I use. It is not just his camera but I feel like it is ours. A big difference in attitude. We are a partnership in life and in our photography business.
Two weeks ago we went to Jamaica for a belated Honeymoon but primarily we were there to take photos for our friends wedding. We were able to do so much for the couple. I was able to take photos of the bride getting ready, while he photographed the groom. I was able to get a different perspective and we were able to capture each of them in the same moment. It was a wonderful harmony for us and the couple.
While Tim was taking photos at botanical gardens near our home this past Saturday, I was at a Baby Shower for a dear friend's daughter. The photos above are of the star of the show, baby Maisie. These are two of my favorites of the day. I was on my own for the photo shoot. Which made me realize that I could do gigs too. The events that interest me. So we will be tweaking our website to include a page for me. I am so excited about that. Me a photographer, again.
So I am becoming a photographer again. I love being a team with my husband. I love being on my own too. I love being able to capture moments.
